Bird droppings are one of the biggest efficiency killers for solar panels - and most homeowners don't even realize it's happening. The panels keep sitting up there, looking fine from the ground, while the buildup quietly blocks sunlight and cuts into your system's output. Out of sight, out of mind. Until your energy bill tells a different story.

We headed out to a 3-story townhome in Jurupa Valley where the panels had collected a solid layer of grime and bird mess. Getting up to the roof on a home that tall takes the right setup and the right crew. We worked across multiple panel arrays spread around different sections of the roof - nothing about this one was a quick in-and-out job.

Once we got up there, we did a full solar panel cleaning across every array. The difference between a panel that's been sitting under bird activity versus a freshly cleaned one is hard to overstate. Dirt and droppings act like a shade cloth - your panels are generating power, just not nearly as much as they should be.

The good news is that regular cleaning is one of the simplest ways to protect the investment you already made. Solar systems aren't cheap, and keeping them clean is the lowest-effort, highest-return maintenance you can do. It's not complicated - it just has to get done.
