Most homeowners with solar don't think much about cleaning - until they notice their energy production slipping. Dust, bird droppings, and general grime build up on panel surfaces over time, and that layer of buildup is quietly blocking sunlight from doing its job. It's one of those maintenance items that's easy to overlook, but it makes a real difference.

We took care of this home in Rialto as part of a routine biannual solar panel cleaning. The panels had the typical dust accumulation and spotting you'd expect from sitting on a Southern California rooftop - that dry, gritty residue that settles in and doesn't move on its own. Nothing catastrophic, just the natural result of going several months without a cleaning.

We use a soft-bristle water-fed brush system to clean each panel surface thoroughly without any risk of scratching the glass. It lifts the buildup off cleanly and rinses it away - no harsh chemicals, no pressure that could damage the panels or the roof. The goal is always a clean surface that lets maximum sunlight reach the cells.

The difference between a dirty panel and a clean one isn't always visible to the naked eye from the ground. But up close, you can see the contrast clearly. Clean panels reflect light evenly and look sharp. That clarity translates directly into better energy output. Biannual cleaning - twice a year - is what most manufacturers and installers recommend to keep performance where it should be. Skipping it is essentially leaving money on the table.
