Most homeowners don't think about what's living under their solar panels until the damage is already done. Birds - especially pigeons - love the gap between panels and the roof. It's warm, sheltered, and basically perfect for nesting. The problem is that nesting means debris, droppings, and chewed wiring. All of that puts your solar investment at risk.

We just finished a bird proofing job in Fontana where the homeowner was dealing with exactly this. The space under the panels had become a go-to spot for birds, and the buildup was starting to become a real concern. Our job was to close off every gap around the panel array and make sure nothing could get back in.

Here's what we use - a heavy-duty wire mesh barrier that runs along all four sides of the panel array. It's secured with clips that fasten directly to the panel frame, so there's no drilling into the roof and no risk of voiding any warranties. The mesh sits tight against the frame and lays down flush against the tile. Clean, secure, and effective.

What makes this solution worth doing is that it's not a temporary fix. Once that perimeter is sealed, birds have nowhere to land and set up camp. No more debris building up underneath. No more droppings eating away at your roof surface. And no more noise from whatever decided to move in. The homeowner gets real peace of mind knowing the system is protected.

If you've noticed birds hanging around your panels - or worse, heard them under there - it's worth getting it handled sooner rather than later. The longer nesting goes on, the messier and more costly the cleanup becomes. Bird proofing is one of those things that's a lot easier to do before a problem gets out of hand.
